Self-Portrait

This self-portrait of the Swiss-born artist Paul Thevenaz was painted in 1921, the year of his tragic death from a ruptured appendix.

While studying in Paris, Thévanaz had come under the influence of Stravinsky and Cocteau.

The year after his death, Alice De Lamar paid for the private publication of the artist’s work.
